Help! I think I have a virus!

1. Which virus software is the best?
   • I personally don't like anything by Norton\Symantec because of the resources it consumes, the annoying interruptions to update constantly, and I have experienced numerous bugs.
     
   • I am a big fan of free virus scanners, but if you want to pay for one, McAfee seems to be very stable and it doesn't bug you with security alerts and update reminders all the time.
     
   • SNU Students have a free virus scanner provided for them from McAfee, and there are a few free alternatives as well on the home page.
     
2. I think I have a virus, is there a quick removal tool?
   • Stinger scans for over 50 virus and trojan signatures, and the program is small enough to fit on a floppy.

Help! I think I have spyware!

1. What spyware software is the best?
   • Windows Defender and Spybot Search and Destroy are my favorite.
   • HijackThis (advanced users) can erase the bad stuff, but if you don't know what you're doing, it can erase the good stuff too!
   • I also like Ccleaner, it cleans your registry, and other junk files on your PC.

Help! I need someone to look at my computer!

1. Does SNU fix computers?
   • It is SNU's policy NOT to work on student computers. However there are technicians available to do work on the side for $25 per hour.
